| Description historique: | |
A vibrant display of varying hues of blues and white come together to create an incredible arrangement of squares within a grid. They appear to be against a flattened, two-dimensional surface at first, however they swell up from the center and radiate outward in a dazzling effect. Appearing to leap off the canvas, penetrating the space of his audience, Yvaral has uniquely reigned the affect of optical art and creativity in his own outstanding and astounding way. The bright white focal point in the center only serves as a contrast to the darkened borders around the edge of the frame, adding an illusion of depth and intensity inherent in several of Yvaral's works. A dazzling display of optical effects and vibrant colors, Yvaral's success in capturing the viewer's attention is exemplified in this work. Our senses are completely engaged with its large scale, playing with our notion of three dimensions amidst a flat surface. Created in 1974, this original acrylic on canvas is signed by the artist in black in the lower right. This work also features an inscription by the artist on the verso including signature, date, and catalogue number: 'Yvaral | Structure Cubique Quadri B | 1974 | Yvaral | No. 1416.' Catalogue Raisonné & COA: 1. Recorded as cat. no. 1416 within the official Yvaral archives. 2. A Masterworks Certificate of Authenticity will be included with the sale of this work. La biographie de Jean Pierre Vasarely Yvaral
Combining the poetry of geometry with figurative art, Yvaral has created a wholly original body of artworks that has received the praise of important critics and museum curators around the world.
Born in France, Yvaral grew up in a complete artistic ambiance. Working alongside his father, Victor Vasarely, he discovered and explored the beauty of geometry in art. The inspiration of the French Impressionists and Pointillists is evident in Yvaral's vibrant paintings. The artist juxtaposes pure colors next to one another to achieve the illusion of three-dimensional forms.
